Her Mad Hatter

The Mad Hatter and a grown-up Alice from the real world must fall in love in three days or the Mad Hatter’s mental illness will destroy all of Wonderland.

Morning Lark Productions is thrilled to produce this fantasy romance feature adapted from best-selling novel, Her Mad Hatter by Marie Hall. Development began in the summer of 2023 in Washington state. We’re now fundraising and casting.

About the film:

  • Her Mad Hatter was previously approved for Washington Filmworks’ Small Budget Initiative Program, the state’s film funding program which provides 40% of budget.

  • The project is helmed by an award-winning team of BIPOC, queer women and nonbinary folks.

  • Writer / director, Nicole Pouchet, has won numerous screenwriting and filmmaking awards and is known for incorporating social commentary into her projects. Her first short film, Retch, premiered at the Oscar-qualifying festival, Seattle International Film Festival. Her second, Such an Honor, was featured in a festival connecting artists and the United Nations.

  • Through the nuanced main character of Hatter, the film explores the stigma, effects, and treatment of mental illness.

  • The Northwest Film Forum is the fiscal sponsor of Her Mad Hatter. Tax deductible donations for the film can be made directly to the nonprofit.

  • This production is scheduled to begin principal photography in the fall of 2024 near Seattle.
